'Secret Family' the first book of the 'Family Secrets' series is available now. You can read the first chapter below along with the first chapters of all the other books in the series. All the books have been retitled but the cover art has been retained. Sorry for any confusion.
Several readers have been puzzled by the titles, so I've bitten the bullet and made some of the changes they suggested. The original series name was 'The Cameo' and that made some sense given that it is central to the story, and the early versions pictured the cameo on the cover art. There's a picture of it on the 'Welcome' page. I never liked it, it's translucent glow and beauty in real life does not translate well to print. During the editing process the name changed from the 'Locket', the 'Icon', and the 'Talisman' among others. The titles in the series echoed the names of the sisters, (loosely translated Vera/Faith, Nadja/Hope, and Lubja/Love-Charity,) but I they felt that names were confusing. Now, linking them all to the 'Family' and their 'Secrets' makes much more sense, I think.
I thought I could share some of my research for 'Secret Family' with you for. The first thing is a map of West Street, Fareham. While Fareham was not the original location it works for much of the action scenes. Of course, while the locations may be real and familiar to some, the events and characters are fictional. The locations of the girls and Solo's home were commercial offices when the books were written. Other locations could have changed names, use, and ownership. The same goes for Anja's home in Berlin.
The slide decks and videos show some of the locations mentioned in the book, starting with Fareham. Enjoy a short bicycle ride down West St. If you live in the area you will recognize most of the shops. Fareham is a pleasant to visit or in my case to live. If you are in town and are in one of the shops or especially one of the Coffee shops you may see me making notes for another book. You may even be in it, but don't disturb me or I may kill-off your character in the book. That's a writer revenge.
A couple of shots of Hythe and the Hythe ferry end the show.
In chapters 9-11 Anja's story starts to unfold as she hikes the Appalachian Trail across New Hampshire. New England is one of the most beautiful and historical areas of the United States. It's worth visiting at any time of the year but in the fall it's spectacular.
Berlin Anja's home is mentioned extensively and sights in and around Berlin are shown in another slide deck. This show the area around Siemensstadt where Anja lives. Of course Berlin is famed for its shopping centre where Marte always wanted to visit.
Finally, the action returns to New Hampshire with a video of 'The Cog'. That was the best, but keep wrapped up and warm.
I hope you have enjoyed your tour of the locations of Secret Family. I will be blogging about these slides and other aspects of the book in due time. I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know your thoughts and questions.
